New Caledonia 5 Day South Lagoon Island Cruise
If you have 5 days to explore the lagoon islands and reefs of New Caledonia's South Lagoon, the Baie du Prony and Ile Ouen this is the ideal sailing route for you. Of course you'll probably take lots longer than 5 days because it's such a fabulous paradise to explore and so many things to do and see. But if you really were time-limited you can do it in 5 days.
And, as a bonus, if you are sailing from late July until September you will have the possibility of seeing New Caledonia's humpback whales as they play in the World Heritage Lagoon.
The distances are reasonably short, just a few hours sailing for each leg of the journey, and the rewards are spectactular with a menu of white sand beaches, sparkling clear water and colorful coral reefs. While the lagoon anchorages are excellent in nice weather, they can be hazardous in unusual weather conditions. Fortunately the Baie du Prony and Ile Ouen offer anchorages protected from winds and waves from any direction.
IMPORTANT : The routes shown on this website are Google Maps and the geographic coordinates of Google Maps are inaccurate in New Caledonia so consider these routes as general indications only, not accurate cruising routes. Also, the satellite imagery on Google Maps is inferior to the razor sharp aerial images on the Cruising Guide to New Caledonia so if you want accurate and safe information for your cruise, order the Cruising Guide to New Caledonia to plan your boating holiday in New Caledonia. Plus the Rocket Guide will show you surface, underwater, and drone imagery, like the sphere image you can check out by clicking on the link in the header image. And you'll not only see the exact location of the best dive sites but wilderness treks to fantastic places you'd never find by yourself or online.
